The Bathroom

I have some pretty amazing men in my life.

When I think about my girls finding husbands some day I often pray that they'll find men with many of the qualities that their Papa and Grandpa's have.

When I was a teenager, I remember going to youth group one night and talking with some of the other girls that were there about the qualities that we wanted someday in the men that we were going to marry. We wrote them down on a piece of paper. I still have that paper.

And boy am I glad that the Lord gave me way more than I was able to write down on that paper.

When you're young, you find yourself writing things like, "nice," handsome," "funny." And although those things are wonderful and all, they won't hold a marriage together when life gets hard and messy.

So around here, when I see my man, or a grandpa, or a brother, exemplifying an awesome quality, I go out of my way to point it out to my girls. And I tell them what a gift it is to have a man who does XYorZ. Because when the time comes, I want my girls to remember how important it is to not just settle for "nice."

These are just some of the things that I'm overwhelmingly grateful for in the men in my life.

A few weeks back, my father-in-law flew in from Texas to help my Joey and my dad rebuild one of the farmhouse bathrooms. It was such a gift to me. I have no idea how old the old bathroom was but truthfully, it kind of reminded me of a bathroom you would find at an old campground. Dark. Slightly crusty, you know.

The Cowboy and I only want to do projects around our house as we can afford to pay for them in cash. And since the old bathroom was perfectly functional,  (however ugly it might have been) we have waited five years to do anything with it.

In three days time, these men gutted the old bathroom, and built a lovely new bright bathroom.

I'm so so grateful.

I love it with all my heart.

And I'm thankful that I have resourceful men in my life that built this awesome bathroom on a micro-budget.

I think my favorite part of the whole thing is the window. It makes it soo much brighter.

I'm so grateful for a fresh, new bathroom...

But I'm eternally more grateful for the three men who built it for me and for the many ways that they live Christ towards me every day of the year.
